Lo1UK35 (Lorenz) |
|
A radio station was needed which operates on ultra short waves and between two ships that are mostly within visual distance of each other. Based on this requirement, Lorenz introduced the "Ultra-Kurzwellen-Marine-Tornistergerät" Lo1UK35 (SE 4244) in 1934, with approximately 0,7 Watt HF power and a frequency range of 41,55-45,75 MHz. On board the ship, this device was suspended in a mounted shock-absorbing frame, and was connected to a fixed rod antenna with an HF cable. Power was obtained from either filament/anode batteries, filament battery and vibrating anode power supply, or an AC-based power supply. For land operation, a sectional rod antenna was installed on top of the case, along with a counterpoise which was laid on the ground. The 3-stage transmitter is comprised of a local oscillator (RV2P800), frequency doubler (RV2P800) and final driver (RL2T2). The A2 tone generator is the same as the A3 microphone amplifier, is used as the HF amplifier stage in receiving mode. The superheterodyne receiver consists of an HF stage, mixer, local oscillator, IF stage, detector and LF stage (all of which use RV2P800 (6x)), where the transmitter frequency doubler is also used as LF stage. The operating modes were A1, A2 and A3. Dimensions of the set were 468mm x 480mm x 245mm with a weight of about 37 kg (including filament and anode batteries). This station was frequently used by mobile units for group voice communication and also by boarding parties to communicate with their ship. Additionally, communications with airplane radios was possible (with FuG17 or FuG16). IF is 7.5 MHz. Manufactured by Lorenz in 1941 for the Kriegsmarine. There is a very faint trace of the Kriegsmarine Paris presence. |
